New supergroup featuring Charles Lloyd and Bill Frisell set for Jazz by the Sea at Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2018

From his association with Calvin Newborn in Memphis to Gabor Szabo to John Abercrombie and now, Bill Frisell, Charles Lloyd has long had a deep affinity with the guitar and the multitude of moods and sounds that it brings to his music.

In this unique formation of the Marvels, Lloyd pairs two of his favorite partners, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Eric Harland, with two great guitarists, Bill Frisell and Greg Leisz. The mood is celebratory from the start, with Lloyd displaying his knack for threading complex, dynamic musical ideas into the most elemental and open-hearted of riffs and melodies.

Celebrating the release of Lloyd’s new recording for Blue Note Records “ I Long To See You,” the group explores such rich canonical texts of the great American songbook from “Shenandoah” and “Abide With Me,” to Bob Dylan’s “Masters of War,” to Lloyd classics like “Sombrero Sam,” “Island Blues,” and “Of Course, Of Course.”
