Vinterjazz sets a stunning new record with more than 100 venues across the country
The 15th edition of the Vinterjazz comes to cities across the country, where more than 100 venues and more than 25 independent organizers present a record high program for Denmark’s only nationwide music festival of this type. The largest share of concerts remains in Copenhagen, but it is the numerous jazz clubs in other regions, that are experiencing the biggest progress and jazzification of the month.
Among the more than 100 concert places, one can find everything from regional venues, jazz associations, theater and concert halls, cultural institutions and schools. See all concerts in the different regions:
New local concert series at Vinterjazz 2015
The venue record is particularly high due to the new collaborations that result in local concert series and bring together the city’s venues during the Vinterjazz: Sorø Jazz presents music of five local venues in the area. Organizers are the ones behind the annual Sorø Jazz Festival, held for the first time in the summer of 2013 with great success and 2500 festival goers, which has now expanded to Vinterjazz, as well. The venues involved are the Sorø Kunstmuseum, Cafe Tre Konger, Hotel Comwell, Kunstnergården og Restaurant Kongskilde Friluftsgård.
Lemvig has a proud musical tradition, esepecially thanks to a number of Danish jazz names who grew up in the area: Sinne Eeg, Søren Kjærgaard, Jacob Anderskov, Jeppe Skovbakke among others. The West Jutland musical society for classical music and jazz started back in 1947, and now Lemvig Musikforening is helping for the first time at the Vinterjazz 2015 doing concerts at Cultural Tuskær, VIA University College, and also at the high school, music school, in church, as well as live music and the movie “Troldkarlen” in the cinema. Attractions include the solo concert with fellow native Jacob Anderskov and Six City Stompers, Lars Jansson Trio and Clara Vuust Trio.
The music associations Sunship and Jazzselskabet in Aarhus joined together to create a special Vinterjazz concert with 23 younger and older musicians from Århus jazz milieu in a new big band, Aarhus Improvisers Orchestra. The idea for the band arose at a concert with the legendary Fire Orchestra!, already after which the creator Jens Balder took hold of a part of the team. Venues in Aarhus include places such as Studenterhuset, Atlas, B//Huset, Ambassaden, V58, Kunsthal Aarhus and both international groups and musicians with roots in the city such as Jakob Bro Trio, Aarhus Jazz Orchestra, as well as Jakob Sorensen and Daniel Sommer will perform there. Local feel will also pertain in other parts of East Jutland, for example in Silkeborg, through Lunch Jazz Silkeborg and Traktørstedet Ludvigslyst including Mads Mathias.
