The story of Alyona Savranenko is a story of a young kindergarten teacher from a village on the outskirts of Kiev who became an overnight hip-hop sensation. Under the moniker alyona alyona she raps with a confident attitude, a captivating flow and groove, and a rare lyrical ability. It is true hip hop without bling and pomp, and her lyrics are humoristic, political and cutting edge at the same time. She raps in her mother tongue Ukrainian.

She raps humorously about what it’s like to be the “thickest fish” – and not to fit into the narrow ideal of beauty. “Salischaju swij dim” (“I leave my house”) is an unofficial anthem for the many Ukrainians who want to move away from their ancestral life into a better future – whether to the EU, America or the capital Kiev. And after the Russian invasion, the song has got quite another meaning to it. alyona alyona is the winner of ANCHOR Award (Reeperbahn Festival International Music Award for the most promising emerging music talent). She took the breath away from the audience at this year’s Roskilde Festival and in February she will hit Denmark once again, playing her first venue show here.
