Melissa Inya released her critically acclaimed debut album Musical Hallucinations in October 2021. The main singles Lion’s Den and Stomp Blues were quickly embraced and went into A-rotation on the radio stations. The album is an uncompromising fusion of old-school jazz, R&B, funk, and modern soul – an honest and melancholic sonic universe that draws the listener into an intense, personal journey.
Melissa was born in Uganda and moved to Denmark at the age of three. She has been part of the Danish music scene for over a decade and established herself early as a distinctive voice in Copenhagen’s blossoming jazz scene. With more than 100 concerts behind her in Denmark and abroad – including Paris, Stockholm, Helsinki, Nairobi, and Kampala – Melissa Inya is an international voice with deep roots and a global expression.
Her collaboration with the Danish producer Abdullah S. in 2019 became the starting point of her solo career. Melissa Inya’s music is carried by a rare nerve and depth – often rooted in her personal experiences. In 2022, she released Lay Me Down, a moving lullaby for her son Otis, who passed away a few days after birth. A song that – like much of Melissa’s music – balances sorrow and strength, darkness and light.
On stage, Melissa is joined by an exceptionally strong band that creates a vibrant, organic, and uncompromising musical space:
• Emilie Espichicoque – drums
• Zawi Gnahore – backing vocals
• Ken Linh Doky – keys
• Anton Langebæk – bass
Together, they merge their forces and create a sonic whole that feels like both a ritual encounter and a musical explosion.
International recognitions:
“Melissa Inya sounds like a torch-sister from another planet. Think Hi Records, Ann Peebles, produced by D’Angelo with P-Funk’s Woo-master Bernie Worrell sprinkling an enchantment on the keys.” – Wax Poetics Magazine
“This is an important song that stops you and whatever you’re doing, and forces you into a traumatic moment in time. Not to share the experience, but to exorcise the demons of that moment. This is spiritual music.” – Pharoahe Monch
Melissa Inya is not just an artist – she is a movement. Her mission is to create music that opens hearts and builds bridges between people, generations, and cultures. From intimate jazz clubs in Copenhagen to the grand stages of Paris and Stockholm – Melissa Inya leaves an indelible mark....
