Made in Wood creates gentle, meditative jazz inspired by Jan Johansson
In a world full of constant distractions, the jazz duo Made in Wood offers calm,
melodic music that invites listeners into a peaceful, introspective space.
Throughout 2025 they released a new single every two weeks and will follow up with
a new album in spring 2026.
Pianist Jonas Berg and bassist Bastian Sjelberg have, over the past three decades,
worked with some of Danish music’s biggest artists, including Sebastian, Lis Sørensen,
Caroline Henderson, and Benjamin Hav. Although they have played together in many
settings, the idea for Made in Wood first took shape during Nikolaj Cederholm’s acclaimed
Theater Concert Beethoven in 2016, where the two musicians would warm up by jamming
backstage. These improvisations gradually formed the basis of the duo’s intimate sound.

Their melancholic tone draws inspiration from Charlie Haden, Bill Evans, and especially
Jan Johansson’s landmark album Jazz På Svenska. Like Johansson, Made in Wood uses
repetition to create a quiet, meditative atmosphere.
Their debut album Ease (2020) presented a collection of understated instrumental pieces
that reached number 1 on Apple Music’s jazz chart and received airplay on P8 Jazz. In
2025 they continued to release new music through the Swedish label Prisma, often
performing in churches and museums to match their reflective sound.
“We aim to create a dreamy universe—a break from the noise,” says Bastian Sjelberg.
The duo’s 2025 singles were compiled into two album releases, the first appearing on May
2nd.
