FRIDELL / SJELBERG TRIO
After decades of creating electrifying grooves across Funk, Soul, R&B, and Hip-Hop,
three long-time collaborators step into a new spotlight: Daniel Fridell (piano), Kristoffer
Sjelberg (drums), and Bastian Sjelberg (bass) proudly announce the formation of
FRIDELL/SJELBERG TRIO—a project that reconnects them with the music that first
inspired each of them as young listeners.
Although their careers have spanned a wide spectrum of modern groove-based styles,
the trio shares a deep and lifelong love for the great pillars of jazz: Wayne Shorter’s
lyricism, Abdullah Ibrahim’s storytelling, the exploratory spirit of Coltrane, the fire of Art
Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the innovation of Herbie Hancock, and the introspective
beauty of Bill Evans.
That influence never left them — it just simmered under the surface.
Now the trio brings that history into a fresh, acoustic format:...

Blakey & The Jazz Messengers, the innovation of Herbie Hancock, and the introspective

That influence never left them — it just simmered under the surface.
Now the trio brings that history into a fresh, acoustic format: deep groove meets open-
hearted improvisation, lyrical melodies meet fearless interplay. It’s jazz with lived
experience, not nostalgia.
The material is new and original and pays tribute to the greats but at the same time, it
brings something new to the table.
Individually, each musician has built a reputation as a versatile and expressive voice on
their instrument. Together, they bring an unmistakable chemistry forged in countless
studios, stages, and rhythmic explorations. Their new trio project captures that synergy in
a more intimate, acoustic setting—while keeping the energy and openness that defined
their past collaborations.
-”Whenever I have played with either Bastian or Kristoffer, I would always feel a very

thing underneath it all- a free thing. So this was a natural thing to try!!
It was definitely scary at first- even asking them if they wanted to do this.. haha”
