Trombonist Curtis Fuller spent several years as a regular member of Art Blakey’s legendary "Jazz Messengers", and he also appeared on a large number of recordings with some of jazz’s greatest icons, including John Coltrane and Woody Shaw. His collaboration with Coltrane resulted in the iconic trombone solo on “Blue Train,” which most hard bop enthusiasts can practically sing along to.
When Curtis Fuller is celebrated this evening at Belma, the focus is on his original music. Expect sparkling hard bop at its very best, with three horns up front!
