Tobias Stavngaard Sextet is a young and rapidly rising band where modern composed music meets a traditionally staffed jazz sextet. “Stylistically, the sextet is situated in a modern and contemporary jazz landscape, where composition largely shapes the structure of the music.” (Niels Overgård, Jazznyt).
On 27 October 2023, the band released their second album By the Last Man. For this release, composer and bandleader Tobias Stavngaard drew inspiration from the concept of universal history - a form of historiography that seeks to tell the collective history of humankind as a coherent narrative. Shortly after its release, the album was selected as ‘Album of the Week’ on P8 Jazz and has since received several excellent reviews.
