Two experienced gentlemen from the Berlin freejazz scene team up with two young Danish jazz musicians, and the result is vigorous versions of jazz evergreens.
Bassist Richard Andersson joined forces with drummer Kasper Tom in 2013 to start a quartet, who was to play jazz standards in new ways. The two danes agreed to invite two German legends to play, namely saxophonist Henrik Walsdorff and bass clarinetist Rudi Mahall.
The two Germans are both experienced characters on the European Freejazz scene, where they have received great recognition since the 90's, and played with countless important freejazz artists such as Alexander von Schlippenbach and Sven-Åke Johansson.
The quartet is based on well-known tunes by names like Ellington and Monk. Together they turn and twist these evergreens into new musical territories.
