Farida Amadou (b.1989) is one of the most exciting young players to emerge from the free-improvisation/experimental scene in Europe, having treated us to some explosive performances with Steve Noble, Mette Rasmussen, Linda Sharrock, Moor Mother, Chris Pitsiokos and Thurston Moore over the past few years. Farida's own solo bass playing takes stage here, utilizing the metallic timbre & rhythmic potential of her strings as the basis for two exploratory improvisations. Terse melodies, harmonic shards and rumbling patterns are sewed together in elapsing incendiary phrases, like Jamaladeen Tacuma's playing if he joined an industrial punk band instead of Ornette Coleman's group circa Body Meta. With fx pedals Farida is able to open the possibilities of her instrument open, exploring thick fuzzed-phrases, spacious harmonic interplay, drones and more.

Farida Amadou is a self taught bass player based in Liège, Belgium. The electric bass is her main instrument since 2011. In 2013, she has started to play a lot of different musical genres, including blues, jazz and hip-hop. Soon Farida started to dive into improvisation music, and got rapidly identified by local collectif and musicians. After a year (2017) as bass player in belgian punk band Cocaine Piss, Farida decided to focus on her solo improvisation practice and collaborations.

Selvhenter is bursting with new energy and music – ready to play their intense live shows as a quartet consisting of Maria Bertel (trombone, synth), Sonja LaBianca (saxophone), Jaleh Negari (drums, synth/keys) and Anja Jacobsen (drums, keys). New album underway in the beginning of 2023.
The fascinating music of Selvhenter is created by a foundation of strong (poly)rhythmic, heavy riffs, pop-like melodies and textures of sound. The horns are often manipulated by the use of effect pedals which gives a special timber of multiple amplified overtones and frequencies. As a result the sound of Selvhenter is beautiful, energetic and danceable. It brings forward associations of rock, pop, noise, drone and improvisation as well as strong emotional, almost filmic sequences within a refined rhythmic and tactile sound universe.
The four members of the band are all well-known musicians on the Copenhagen experimental music scene, active in bands, performance groups and solo projects such as Meshes, Ymers Pizza, Frk. Jacobsen, Gud Er Kvinde, Valby Vokalgruppe, SOLW, Jaleh Negari and Sonja Labianca.
At live concerts Selvhenter is always curious, focused and full of energy. Through the past few years they have gained an impressive curriculum of concerts played at clubs and festivals all over Europe and Japan, including Wels Unlimited 26 festival, Jazz Gallery Nickelsdorf, Steirischer Herbst (AT), Super Deluxe, Bears, Pepperland, Metro (JP), Café OTO (UK), Kongsberg Jazzfestival (NO), Iceland Airwaves (IS), B-Sides Festival, Bad Bonn Kilbi (CH), Theaterformen Hannover (DE), Flow Festival (FL), Jazz är Farligt, Folkets Park Malmö (SE), Zomerparkfeest (NL), Skanu Mežs Festival (LV), Sonic Protest (FR), Taktlos Festival, Jazz Jantar (PL), Click Festival, Mayhem, G((O))NG Tomorrow, Copenhagen Jazzfestival and Roskilde Festival (DK)....
