DJ Maphorisa is possibly one of the biggest producer names, you've never heard of. He is the godfather of the house sub genre amapiano ('the pianos' in Zulu). The genre's deep, loose and soulful sound started as a rebellion against the darker more aggressive gqom sound.

Even thought the genre has been an immense success in South Africa for years, it has only lately gotten throught to the mainstream global scene - world stars like Major Lazer, Jason Derulo, Trey Songz and Wizkid have all release DJ Maphorisa produced tracks. The collab with Major Lazer on the African anthem "Particular" topped the charts in 17 countries all over the African continent. On Saturday the 1st of July DJ Maphorisa comes to Denmark for the very first time when he parties at Pumpehuset.
