Makiko Hirabayashi METEORA
Makiko Hirabayashi is a Japanese pianist/composer, based in Copenhagen since 1990. Her trio, featuring the legendary drummer/percussionist Marilyn Mazur and bassist Klavs Hovman has received wide critical acclaim as a personal voice on the international jazz scene, since their first album release in 2006. Their latest and fifth release "Meteora" was amongst Best Albums of 2023 in Downbeat Magazine.
Over the last two dacades, this trio has captivated audiences around the world with their vibrant interplay and strong compositions with a great storytelling quality. Makiko’s multicultural background and musical diversity is reflected in her music. Elements of jazz, classical music, Far Eastern music and Nordic moods are all molded into an intriguing, compelling sound of her own. The originality of her compositions has earned her the Honorary Award from the Danish Composers Association in 2020.
