Spellcaster is a roleplaying campaign directed by composer holger hartvig (they/them), operating in a storyworld of signal songs, formulae, montages and transmissions - all tied together by the narration of the character anybard. informed by bardic methods, operatic expression and game engines as compositional tools, the project is concerned with questions of temporality, memory, community and identity raised by music and stories. anybard is currently testing a song-and-narrative-engine within the scenic (sonic) installation of a radio field: 8x walkie talkies. attempting to establish connection with the ghosts of this “shadow channel”, anybard is invoking their future ensemble: the spellchestra.
