“Lakes & Fires” was formed in 2024 by three friends: Birk Nevel, Lasse Boman, and Shaka Loveless. Having played together in various projects since the early 2000s, the band was built on a foundation of friendship, creativity, and a deep urge to create. In addition to their collaborations in the hip-hop collective Gypsies and the indie pop/rock band Are We Brothers?, the members have been involved in numerous projects on the Danish music scene.

Shaka Loveless launched a successful solo career in the early 2010s, winning a Danish Music Award in 2013 for Male Artist of the Year.

Lasse Boman has achieved great success as a songwriter, with major hits for artists like Uro and Drew Sycamore.

Birk Nevel works as a producer and is one of the most sought-after drummers in Denmark’s live and studio scenes. He is part of Familien, known for their collaboration with Benjamin Hav, which earned him a Gaffa Award in 2023 for Best Live Act.

There’s no doubt that the members of Lakes & Fires have earned their place in Danish music. But working within the mainstream music industry can create a creative pressure valve — a longing to create something free from expectations and commercial considerations; something where each song and each note is allowed to be exactly what it wants to be.

At the beginning of 2024, the three friends met in a rehearsal space and began jamming. After a few sessions, a musical concept started to emerge — centered around groove, mental imagery, and longing. Initially, the idea was to keep the project fully instrumental, but without restricting the creative flow, words and melodies eventually entered the picture. However, vocals and lyrics are not the core of the songs — they merely help shape the atmosphere and visuals.
