North Carolina native Rick Hauchman, also known as “Ricky Boy”, has been playing in bands on and off since the impressionable age of 16. As a harmony singer in the legendary hometown band Big Fat Gap, he honed his chops alongside some of Carolina’s finest young pickers before moving to Colorado to start the band Broke Mountain, which went on to win the Rockygrass Band Competition in 2003.
After a short stint with the band, Rick returned to Chapel Hill, NC to finish college before heading to Nashville to learn from the best. Bluegrass has always been a connection point for him — the songs and instruments spoke to something deep within, and the powerful, honest combination of sounds felt entirely real.
Life then took him on another adventure, this time across an ocean to Copenhagen, where Rick picked up where he left off, hosting the only regular bluegrass jam in Denmark. Through this jam, he found his musical companions to form the hard-driving band...

Through this jam, he found his musical companions to form the hard-driving band Lowlife Brotherhood and his counterpart to start a new project, Space Dudes — a psychedelic folk/rock band exploring the outer realms of the genre.
In addition to these two projects, Rick performs with Buds, a traditional folk band that allows him to express yet another side of his musical tendencies. Other musical endeavors are constantly in the works, the most notable being his electric mandolin work with Trine Trash & Betonträume.
These projects have pushed Rick’s songwriting to flourish in different directions. As a solo artist, he now has a rich basket of songs to choose from, with bluegrass and flatpicking at the heart of it all....
