The Accra-born pianist and frontman, Rob, only released a few albums in small quantities, yet two of them are among the most sought-after records from 70’s Africa. After learning his craft in Benin and playing with the likes of Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, Rob returned to Accra to write his own material and find a sound – inspired by the driving funk and raw soul of stars such as James Brown and Otis Redding. The result was a mesmerizing and cosmic afro-funk charged with funky wah-wah guitar, synth flares and brass blasts as can be heard on his debut album ‘Funky Rob Way’. The album has just been reissued via Analog Africa and Mr. Bongo. And now Rob (who has for a long time been away from the music industry) returns to live stages and sensationally tours Europe for the first time ever. His show at ALICE with an all-star band of musicians who have played with musicians like Ebo Taylor, Jimi Tenor and more is bound to start a wild dance party.
