Franc, the son of clarinetist René Franc , who accompanied Sidney Bechet for a long time , began his career in the early 1970s. In 1974 he played in the Gilbert Leroux Orchestra . In 1975 he appeared in his father's band, with whom he made several tours in Germany. In 1976 he founded his own band. A joint tour with Oscar Peterson and Claude Luter in 1978 brought him great popularity in France. In the meantime, his band, with which he presented himself internationally, mainly cultivates the repertoire of Bechet. He has also performed with the sextet by Wynton Marsalis and Bob Wilberas well as with the quintet of Bechet's son, Daniel-Sidney Bechet, and the International Trio (around Reimer von Essen and Trevor Richards with David Boeddinghouse). Between 1976 and 2016 he was involved in 46 recordings of jazz albums.
