Nina de Heney & Qarin Wikström
Nina de Heney and Qarin Wikström are both remarkable profiles from the Scandinavian improvising music environment. De Heney well known for her soloperformances and her collaboration with pianist Lisa Ullén. Wikström currently in a nice flow with the trio Shitney, and her solo project Q. Both of them have branded themselves as artists with uncompromising musicality, deeply personal expressions, and sensitive interplay. This evening will be the premiere of their duo.
Nina de Heney, Swedish bass player residing in Gothenburg. Since 1992, de Heney has been active as a solo performer and in numerous collaborations with musicians, dancers and choreographers. In later years her duo with pianist Lisa Ullén has created a lot of attention and critical acclaim. de Heney has received several nominations for the Swedish Jazz Celebration, and received the 2012 Jazz Musician of the Year Award, along with several grants from the Swedish Arts Grant.
Nina de Heney has an intimate connection with her instrument –the bass as her extended body, she uses rich imagination, fast instincts, assured and distinctive command of the bass and total surrender to the moment of improvisation.
”These masterful improvisations put de Heney in a league of her own in the elite of solo double bass improvisers” All About Jazz
