Anna Roemer
Anna Roemer is known for her unique approach to the guitar - based on a belief and insistence that the instrument is capable of much more than most listeners think possible, opening ears and minds as she creates sonic images using only the guitar and pedalboard as tools. Many audiences, musicians, and critics already know Anna Roemer as one half of KALEIIDO (with saxophonist Cecilie Strange) - a celebrated duo that plays with a growing rotation of guest musicians from the upper echelon of the Danish jazz scene. Many audiences, musicians, and critics already know Anna Roemer as one half of KALEIIDO (with saxophonist Cecilie Strange) - a celebrated duo that plays with a growing rotation of guest musicians from the upper echelon of the Danish jazz scene. The band debuted with the critically-acclaimed album VOYAGE in 2021, followed by ELEMENTS in 2022, an album that also created serious waves, exciting reviewers in Denmark and around the world. Roemer released AZURE, her first self-titled album, in early October 2022, exploring the musical possibilities of both acoustic and electric guitar. She weaves evocative tones and elegant sound scenography together with the use of her effect pedals. Saxophonist Ned Ferm contributes on four tracks and the album was made in close collaboration with producer Rasmus Juncker. GAFFA has called it a virtuoso Danish debut album and acknowledged it with a five-star review. The album has also been album of the week on P8Jazz. At AZURE, listeners witness Anna Roemer's patience, strength and vulnerability as a solo artist, and this Roemer also brings with her on stage when she plays live. All the material is closely connected and based on the same basic idea of exploring ideas through repetition, but at the same time avoiding becoming boring and trivial - a dogma of Roemer's music, concerts and work. Most of the music features large, soundscapes and productions, sprinkled with beautiful details and melodies that unfold in sometimes unconventional and delightfully unexpected directions. Danish guitarist and composer Anna Roemer was born and raised in South Zealand and has lived in Copenhagen since 2015, taking the music scene in the capital city by storm. Roemer has played with artists including Hannah Schneider, Kirstine Stubbe Teglbjærg, and Guldimund, as well as being a member of the “house” band at the Carl Prisen award show, and the tribute project Black Voices. In 2001, she released the mini-EP BAKKEDRAGET, and her debut album AZURE arrives in October of 2022 on Emulsion Sounds.
