The Danish saxophonist Cecilie Strange released her new album 'Beyond' on 9 June 2023 on the April Records label. The album's release was celebrated with a sold-out concert at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen on 11/11 2023, and the celebration continues during this year's Winter Jazz Festival 2024.
The album is a musical manifestation of peace, deep calm and contemplation inspired by the arrival of motherhood.
“The music here is, as Cecilie says, about the circle of life. About motherhood and love. It all comes together gently, slowly, a musical painting of life, love, and death, observed slowly in a very good place on a small Norwegian Island. Brightened by joy and the magic of the birds and the midnight sun.” -Derek Ansell, Jazz Journal

BEYOND has been very well received on the Danish, Nordic and international jazz scene and on Danish jazz radio, P8 jazz. The record is a melancholic, spacious, Nordic ode to the cycle of life, both physical and spiritual. BEYOND was recorded by four musicians (her dream team) recorded in a circle, and reflects the course of life. The compositions reflect on those she loves and those she has loved and lost.
In 2023 Cecilie Strange received the prize for 'Jazz recording of the Year' at the Presto Music Awards (UK) and was nominated at this year's DMA Jazz in the categories 'Jazz Composer of the Year' and 'Jazz Release of the Year' for her work with BEYOND, and received the Carl Prize 2023 in the category 'Composer of the Year' within jazz with K A L E II D O.
BEYOND is the follow-up to Cecilie Strange's critically acclaimed 2022 release 'Blikan', which has been the start of Strange's international recognition with over 1 million plays on Spotify and reviews in a wide variety of publications, including Downbeat magazine.
"At the most peaceful, loving and good-sounding end of the saxophone's emotional register, Cecilie Strange operates when she plays under her own name. The 38-year-old conservatory-educated saxophonist has added the album Beyond to the excellent trilogy she began with Blue from 2020 and continued with Blikan this year after. On all three records her wistfully gentle saxophone playing is accompanied by pianist Peter Rosendal, drummer Jakob Høyer and bassist Thommy Andersson. (...) Yes, Beyond is pleasant beyond the usual."
