Oilly Wallace is an award-winning Danish saxophonist, flutist, and composer based in Copenhagen. His playing, studio work, and compositions have in recent years attracted significant attention on the Scandinavian music scene — both through his role as a touring and studio musician for artists such as Andreas Odbjerg, Emma Sehested Høeg, Coco O, Velvet Volume, Marie Key, and the new Vild Med Dans orchestra — and later also as an artist in his own right, with now two full-length albums to his name.
His latest release, Sugar Baby Butterfly, arrived in spring 2025 and serves as a sonic gallery of portraits of musical hotshots who have all influenced Oilly Wallace. Listen closely and catch the nods to David Sanborn’s sax playing, Brian Wilson’s vocal arrangements, Henry Mancini’s orchestrations, Marcus Miller’s slap bass, and João Donato’s melodies. It’s all thrown into the mix. Yet the result remains unmistakably Oilly Wallace — with all the understated humor, the technical mastery, the constant interplay between compositional complexity and simplicity, the ever-present melancholy, and the meticulous attention to detail that defines one of Denmark’s most respected session saxophonists as he unfolds his own musical universe.
Sugar Baby Butterfly follows his debut album Flowers Of The Youth from 2023, where, in the role of singer/songwriter, he highlighted his many-faceted musical talent.
With two albums behind him, it’s only fitting that Wallace now takes the songs on the road, performing two concerts under his own name in spring 2026. Joining him are some of his finest musical companions: Jonathan Bremer on bass, Rasmus Juncker on drums, Rasmus Sørensen on keys, and his longtime musical brother Johannes Wamberg on guitar.
