JIVE Jazz Vejle is proud to finally present our locally born tenor saxophonist, Cecilie Strange, together with her own dream band.
She already appeared at JIVE in the spring of 2025 with the specially assembled anniversary group Vejle All Stars, which resulted in a fantastic concert. This time, however, Cecilie Strange brings her own project – performing music she has composed herself.
Her latest release from spring 2025 is titled BEECH. The name points to where Strange’s music often leads us: into the quiet, atmospheric side of jazz. It is music with the clarity and calm of a beech forest on a bright spring day – shimmering with life and the feeling that a new cycle is beginning. The beech tree almost becomes a symbol for Cecilie herself: she has grown tall in the “jazz forest” and now extends her branches far beyond Denmark. Strange has received widespread recognition for her musicianship, especially for her work as a composer.

BEECH is the fourth and final part of a connected series released between 2020 and 2025. The earlier titles are BLUE, BLIKAN and BEYOND. In this tetralogy, the beech tree’s roots become a source of inspiration: memories of her late father, the joys of motherhood and family, encounters with love, the beauty of nature, and the fellow “jazz beech trees” – the musicians who keep the music alive.
The album is realised through a close musical collaboration with the highly acclaimed members of her band: Swedish bassist Tommy Andersson, the outstanding pianist Peter Rosendal, and drummer Jakob Høyer. The group has worked together for many years and shares a deep musical understanding.
In this ensemble, performing Cecilie’s compositions, there is a strong unity of expression. The music moves with calmness and lyricism, leaving room to dwell, explore, and listen. Improvisations grow naturally out of the moment, fitting the musical landscapes the band creates – whether in a beech forest, on a mountain ridge, by a coastal lighthouse, or anywhere else the imagination leads.
Expect a focused and quietly intense concert with rich improvisation from one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Danish jazz....
