When Rizan Said steps onto the ALICE stage this February, he arrives with an energy capable of shaking even the most winter-weary audience awake. At the heart of Said’s sonic universe lies the electrifying fusion of traditional dabke rhythms, hypnotic melodies, and his signature, virtuosic synth work. Originally from Ras Al-Ain in Syria’s northeastern Jazeera region, Said emerged early as a musical prodigy – first on percussion and reed instruments, later as a pioneer of Syria’s synth era in the late ’80s and early ’90s. His work on the burgeoning cassette scene quickly earned him a reputation beyond Syria’s borders, not least through his long-running collaboration with producer Zuhir Maksi.
Rizan Said has composed and produced for a number of major voices, including Sarya Al Suwas and Asi El Hellani, and has created music for both film and television. Internationally, he is also known for his many years on stage with the legendary Omar Souleyman, where his rapid-fire synth lines became a global phenomenon. His solo albums The King of Keyboard (2015) and its follow-up on Akuphone Records (2019) cemented his status as an artist who both carries and transforms tradition. Live, Rizan Said conjures pure euphoria with a pulsating, festive, and utterly irresistible sound. His performances at European festivals such as Le Guess Who, Down the Rabbit Hole, and Iceland Airwaves have gained cult status – and now you can experience his boundary-breaking dance magic up close when he ignites ALICE this February.
