Nordic country galore: queer outlaw energy and melodic Americana from the Norwegian front line
ALICE throws the swinging doors wide open for a rip-roaring February night as two of the most prominent names on the new Norwegian country and Americana scene take the stage. With devil-may-care playfulness, heart-warming vocals, sharp lyrics and infectious energy, Embla and the Karidotters and Ole Kirkeng transform the venue on Nørre Allé into a living, Nordic country saloon. The concert is part of Vinterjazz.
Embla and the Karidotters:
Embla and the Karidotters deliver modern, queer outlaw country with a wink and plenty of twang. Fronted by Razika drummer Embla Karidotter, the project brings together a powerhouse lineup of musicians from bands such as Honningbarna, Sløtface and Slomosa. Rooted in classic country but with their eyes firmly on the future, the band has quickly established itself as one of the most vital forces in the genre. Their debut a...

Their debut album Hello, I’m Embla won the Spellemann Award (Norwegian Grammy) for Best Country Album, and the more honky-tonk-leaning follow-up Off Leash has taken them on tour across Norway, Europe and the US, as well as to Denmark’s SPOT Festival. Live, they’re known for their infectious energy, heart-warming singalongs and a firm belief that country music can be free, playful and boundary-pushing. With the release of their new single “Imogen,” we can’t help but look forward to February 28.
Ole Kirkeng:
Ole Kirkeng represents a different, yet kindred branch of the new Norwegian country wave. His songs balance humor, melancholy and brutal honesty, and with the upcoming album bearing the irresistible title Cowboy Lie Detector Machine (2026), he steps into a new chapter. Recorded in snow-covered Swedish forests with Nashville-based producer Dominic Billett, the album blends Americana, country rock and indie into a warm, band-driven sound. Kirkeng has already won a Spellemann Award and shared the stage with artists such as Molly Tuttle and Bonny Light Horseman – and at ALICE, audiences can experience a band that plays with both confidence and intimacy.
