Since their debut in 2017, the group has established itself as one of Denmark’s most distinctive instrumental ensembles, with a sound that moves freely across genres. Hvalfugl combines deeply integrated interplay with dreamlike ambient textures and patiently unfolding musical narratives, allowing beautiful melodies to gradually reveal themselves to the listener.

The trio consists of Jonathan Fjord Bredholt (piano and harmonium), Jeppe Lavsen (guitar), and Anders Juel Bomholt (double bass). Their musical interaction balances warm acoustic tones with subtle use of effects, creating a distinctive sound that is both intimate and compelling.

As a live act, Hvalfugl is renowned for its presence and ability to create complete artistic experiences. Audiences are invited into a musical universe of sublime beauty, where compositions are woven together into cohesive and engaging journeys that both move and inspire. With their first three albums, By (2017), Som En Faldskærm (2019), and Øjeblikke Vi Husker (2020), they laid the foundation for their dreamlike and atmospheric sound. Their latest release, the double LP Bag Vore Øjne Strømmer Drømme Sagte Forbi (2025), brings together three years of work and a series of EP releases into a single, cohesive work.
