Duo Ruut combines the sound of a single Estonian zither with two distinct voices. Drawing inspiration from the traditions of their Estonian cultural heritage, the duo incorporates elements from the belief systems of various cultures alongside their own contemporary, emotionally charged songwriting.

Because Duo Ruut composes using a single instrument, their music is minimalist in its fundamental form, yet brimming with fresh, imaginative ideas. With just one instrument positioned between them, Ann-Lisett Rebane and Katariina Kivi create what *Mojo* has described as "a sound the size of a full band." Standing on opposite sides of the zither, they pluck and bow its strings, while occasionally striking the body of the instrument to introduce percussive elements. As *Songlines* has noted, the music is accompanied by ethereal vocals that gently draw the listener into their world. Sometimes, it is the simplest, most minimalist music that makes the most profound impact.

In a short span of time, the duo has performed at renowned festivals and venues, including Glastonbury, ESNS, WOMEX, Celtic Connections, Trans Musicales, PIN, TMW, MENT, Pohoda Festival, WOMAD UK, WOMADelaide, Stimmen Festival, and the Elbphilharmonie. Over the past few years, they have played concerts in more than 20 countries worldwide, and their music has been featured by international media outlets such as KEXP, the BBC, *Mojo*, *The Guardian*, and *Rolling Stone*. In addition to their debut album ‘Tuule sõnad’ (“Words of the Wind”, 2019) and the EP ‘Kulla kerguseks’ (“Golden Light”, 2021), Duo Ruut released their second full-length album in 2025, ‘Ilmateade’ (“The Weather Forecast”), which was named Folk Album of the Month by The Guardian. The album utilizes traditional Estonian texts as lyrics, illustrating that the weather is not merely a passive element on the other side of our windows, but rather a volatile character that holds greater power over us than we tend to remember in our busy daily lives.

The concert is presented in collaboration with RUST.
