This winter, you can experience the award-winning and beloved Norwegian pianist Tord Gustavsen as he returns to Brorson’s Church—this time accompanied by his trio, featuring Jarle Vespestad and Steinar Raknes. Look forward to a sublime sense of presence and hymnal compositions beneath the church’s vaulted ceilings—a setting that invites musical breathing space and quiet contemplation.
As one of the most prominent acts on the ECM record label, the Tord Gustavsen Trio tours globally, yet they have been rare visitors to Denmark. We are therefore delighted to present the trio as part of the Vinterjazz festival—marking their first performance in Denmark as a trio since 2003.
Tord Gustavsen’s most recent appearance in Denmark took place at Brorson’s Church in 2023, where he delivered a critically acclaimed solo concert that earned, among other accolades, a 5-heart rating from both *Politiken* and *Gaffa*.

"Following the magnificent, hour-and-a-half-long solo performance he delivered at Brorson’s Church in Nørrebro, his reputation in Denmark is sure to grow, winning him a multitude of new fans. What a truly masterful session it was. As the audience left the church, most wore an expression of pure bliss. They had witnessed music of rare intensity and spirituality." — Kim Skotte, 5 hearts, *Politiken*. "Gustavsen confirmed not only that he is an exceptional talent as both a composer and a performer, but also that he possesses the ability to arrange, improvise, and forge a connection with higher powers. He effectively transformed contemplation into art—live—and there was no doubt that this art touched many in the room. In that sense, too, there was a great sense of openness and elevation in Brorson’s Church this Sunday evening." – Ivan Rod, Gaffa, 5 stars

Tord Gustavsen describes his musical work as a constant search for a fresh, radically stripped-back, and honest beauty. He explores, constructs, and unfolds a holy trinity consisting of emotional intensity, genuine elegance, and a meditative musical breath.
The hymnal, contemplative quality of Gustavsen’s playing seems almost tailor-made for the setting of a church—a space where the music can continue to resonate long after the keys have been released.

The trio most recently released the critically acclaimed album *Seeing* on the ECM label and has announced a new, as-yet-untitled album for 2027.
“a poetic performance with technically astonishing skills .. One feels lighter when losing ourselves in the melodies, chords, and rhythms of Seeing, a work filled with outstanding musicianship, restraint, and openness” (Jazztrail om Seeing)
“lyrically imaginative, melodically grounded and emotionally full" - recording of the week (Presto Music om Seeing)...
