‘Messe (You are where you need to be)’ is a deconstructed Messe composed for 21 musicians: seven voices, seven saxophones and seven double basses. The work grapples with the inherent tension that resides within faith, contemplation and grief. To have faith is to wrestle with ideas and experiences — it is a balancing act. ‘Messe (You are where you need to be)’ invites the listener to meditate on what it means to have a relationship with something more than oneself.

This album came about as I reconciled with the deconstruction of my faith. This work is dedicated to those who are also in between worlds or have not known where they belong or what they believe. It can be quite disorientating. However, I have become increasingly aware that in this life to have true faith is not to be resolute, but to sit in the tension of it ...

Den eksperimenterende kvartet Asta befinder sig i et krydsfelt mellem jazz, klassisk og improvisationsmusik. Musikerne kommer fra Danmark, Island og Finland. Med den atypiske besætning fagot, saxofon, vokal og guitar skaber kvartetten et nyt unikt udtryk. Musikken er en blanding af legende frie improvisationer og komponeret musik. Det er nærværende nordisk musik, som man kan lukke øjnene til og lade sig forføre....
