Mathias Heise was just 8 years old when he accidentally became aware of the harmonica and
threw his love for the instrument. Today he is no less than world champion in
chromatic harmonica playing – a title he won at the World Harmonica Festival when he was just 20 years old. In addition, both Danish and international awards have practically rained down on him, including the New Jazz Star of the Year (2015) and the Crown Prince Couple's Stjernedryspris (2016).
Mathias is also a composer and has collaborated with the Danish Radio Big Band, with whom he
released the album The Beast (2018) – to the great enthusiasm of the critics: "He is
almost too good to be true", wrote Politiken. He has also released 3 albums with his band Mathias Heise Quadrillion, an album with the Mathias Heise Quintet and an album with the classical accordion virtuoso Bjarke Mogensen.
