Rymden is the name of the groundbreaking trio created by three unconditional Nordic heavyweights, who have all made a name for themselves on the world stage for years with their innovative jazz.
Now they are coming to Montmartre as one of the top names during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2025.
Two of the trio's three members, Dan Berglund on bass and Magnus Öström on drums, are particularly known for their revolutionary participation in the Esbjörn Svensson Trio (E.S.T.) until the frontman passed away in a tragic drowning accident in 2004.
For a long time after that, they did not perform with their instruments. But when they finally got going again, it was, among other things, in collaboration with the equally amazing Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft. Together they have picked up the gauntlet from E.S.T. and taken the meeting between Nordic jazz and progressive fusion even further.

Bugge Wesseltoft is known as a jazz innovator, and is, among other things, behind the group "New Conception of Jazz", and has played with great artists such as Billy Cobham and Pat Metheny. For jazz nerds, it can be mentioned that he - in line with Keith Jarrett - is in the stable of the prestigious record label ECM
Although Rymden's warm beating heart has deep roots in much of what E.S.T stood for, Wesseltoft's spice has drawn them to new places here. The sometimes mythical Nordic landscape is brought to life by synthesizer arpeggios and quirky, but precise drum rhythms. In an inevitable meeting, the two merge and Rymden's contours emerge in the morning mist.
Although the more fusion-jazz is a mainstay in Rymden's sound, this is difficult to define, as the genre range is so wide. One moment, ballads are perfected, so that the audience sits dreamily in a sound universe that can evoke early childhood memories. The next changes tempo and beat to intense, sophisticated prog-funk numbers, so that you can be close to falling off the ledge.
This super-trio exudes something particularly soulful. A special rhythmic sensation, if you will. A rustle of subtle details built on a foundation of an innovative approach to what new Nordic jazz can be. Rymden constantly searches for new musical heights and along the way has picked up elements of 60s psychedelia, but also punk and electric.
As a group, Rymden has 4 albums and several singles behind them and has worked with, among others, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and John Scofield....
