Inspired by the distinctive logic of our musical heritage, Tomas Raae & Eline Hellerud Åsbakk have created an album that reimagines Nordic folk music for the present day – an invitation into an enchanted musical world of improvisation, folk songs, and jazz – where past and present intertwine.
“The old Nordic songs are like small miracles – filled with precision, poetry, and reflections on life’s great mysteries. I was deeply moved when I immersed myself in them,” says Tomas Raae.
The concert is based on the upcoming album ...før de spredtes ("...before they dispersed"), a modern interpretation of the Nordic musical legacy. The album gathers original new compositions and folk melodies from the period 1300–1870, serving as a tribute to the poetry and depth of ancient musical traditions.

Quotes:
“...Eline Hellerud Åsbakk’s stunning vocals emerge clear and pure from the shadows, breaking the darkness with a voice shaped over the years by her love of Nordic folk, hymns, and jazz improvisation. It’s truly an impressive interpretation of this centuries-old song and a wonderful counterbalance to Raae’s playing.”
– The Slow Music Movement
“‘Jeg Glemmer Dig Aldrig’ is more than a song – it’s a meditation on memory and the enduring power of love (...) Raae’s ability to balance tradition and innovation is evident in every note. By weaving new compositions together with centuries-old folk influences, he creates a musical tapestry rooted in history yet reaching toward the future.”
– De Ochtendschijn
“What immediately struck us was the sensitive voice, lying gently and almost veil-like over the subdued instrumentation (...) a mysterious and slightly dark atmosphere that lends the work an original and surreal character.”
– Berlin On Air
“A meditation in sound. Not only does it carry deeply meditative connotations, but the breath-like rhythm somehow seems to physically alter the atmosphere.”
