After spending several years as a sideman for both American and Danish jazz icons, pianist and crooner Jan Nielsen in 2016 decided to form his own band under the name Flying Jazzman. The band delivers solid, swinging jazz inspired by pianists such as Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and Gene Harris.
Jan Nielsen, the Flying Jazzman, lived in the U.S. for many years, playing gigs in New Orleans and serving as a regular musician in a gospel church in southern Alabama. Handpicked Musicians Who Love to Play...
The repertoire shifts between New Orleans jazz and swing, with any songs newer than the 1940s played in the good old-fashioned style. Since 2017, the band and their swing repertoire have been tested and highly appreciated by some of Denmark’s best swing dancers. What sets these musicians apart is their deep love for swing music and classic jazz standards.
