Coltrane's importance as a style creator and innovator for modern jazz is enormous: In his all-too-short life, he managed to embrace bebop, hardbop, modal jazz and avant-garde free jazz - always at the forefront and on the way to new horizons. As a particularly characteristic feature, Coltrane's expression lends the music a nerve and spirituality of very special intensity.
