The award-winning group consists of nine musicians and singers who deliver a richly original repertoire inspired by Korea’s sacred shamanistic music (gut) and beloved folk songs (minyo) from Hwanghae Province. Armed with instruments such as the bamboo flute daegeum and the bowed string instrument ajaeng, ADG7 effortlessly unfolds the spiritual energy of Korean folklore into K-pop-inspired arrangements. With three powerful lead vocalists, intricately coordinated choreography, multi-part harmonies, colorful costumes, superb musicianship, and an engaging, warmly humorous stage presence, ADG7 brings audiences into a state of pure excitement.
ADG7 was formed in 2015—the year Korea marked the 70th anniversary of its national liberation. By reconnecting with shared Korean cultural roots, ADG7 expresses both the significance of liberation and a hope for reunification. The group has received several awards, including Best Group at the KBS Korean Traditional Music Awards 2018 and the Sori Frontier Award at the Jeonju International Sori Festival 2017. They have also enriched festivals such as WOMEX, globalFEST, WOMAD, Glastonbury, and Roskilde. When they performed at ALICE in 2024, they had a packed and ecstatic crowd singing along in Korean—so expectations are high as they return for this summer’s jazz festival.
