Kaja’s workshop will take place in English and will focus on solo performance as well as improvisation in general. It will also feature an opportunity for 3-5 musicians to work with Kaja to develop their solo playing and play a short solo-set later in the evening during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival event.

21:00 Kaja Draksler - solo
Kaja Draksler (1987) is a Slovenian pianist and composer. After her studies in the Netherlands (BA in jazz piano and MA in classical composition), she decided to stay in Amsterdam, where she became an active member of the improvisors scene, performing extensively all over the Europe. After 13 years in Holland, she decided, in 2018, to move to Copenhagen, Denmark, until she recently returned to her home village Trboje in Slovenia.
Kaja has been performing internationally in Europe, USA, and Canada. Besides her frequent solo concerts, her active projects include her Amsterdam-based Octet, trio Punkt.Vrt.Plastik,duets with Terrie Ex, Susana Santos Silva, Marcin Masecki (Draksler/Bach/Masecki), and Szymon Gąsiorek (Czajka & Puchacz), quartet Hearth, and most recently, her new group matter 100. She is one of the founding members of the interdisciplinary group I/O and part of the internationally acclaimed Doek collective. As a composer she has been commissioned by various international groups, ranging from vocal and chamber ensembles to big bands and orchestras.
Kaja is interested in placing herself into different contexts. She often works with poetry, her projects range from completel improvised to through-composed, aesthetically drawing from a wide spectrum of genres.
