Ngánga
Denmark’s most-played musician on radio and TV, and one of the most frequently used session musicians over the past 40 years, percussionist Rune Harder Olesen, has pursued a parallel passion for Afro-Cuban music (he is initiated as omó añá) alongside his work as a sideman. He has now formed the family band Ngánga together with his Cuban wife, the charismatic singer and dancer Raisa Castro, and their two daughters, Sophia and Cecilia Castro, who also sing and play percussion.
Joining them are two internationally acclaimed musicians: Cuban Yasser Pino on bass/guitar and Dawda Jobarteh from Gambia on the kora.
The group embodies great diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, and age.
The word Ngánga comes from the Bantu people of West Africa and means both "spiritual healer" and "musician."
