The building, which today houses the Culture and Community Center "Det Gamle Gasværk", dates back to 1912, when Brabrand Gasworks was established. In 1998 "Det Gamle Gasværk" entered into an agreement with Aarhus Municipality to rent the buildings, after which it has since been renovated and houses associations that organize music, theatre, communal dining and art exhibitions. The buildings, which are still owned by Aarhus Municipality, are declared worthy of preservation.
