Faroese songwriter Teitur reimagines traditional Faroese folk music in collaboration with Danish indie-jazz band Girls in Airports
In 2022, Faroese singer and songwriter Teitur began a collaboration with the Danish indie-jazz band Girls in Airports to create brand-new music that blends their distinctive sonic worlds. The result premiered at VEGA in Copenhagen and has since evolved into a larger partnership, including an album produced by international producer Bruce Lampcov, scheduled for release later this year.
At the heart of the music are Faroese folk songs known as Skjaldur. Reflecting on Teitur’s childhood in the Faroe Islands and youth in Denmark, the material draws from ancient Faroese rhymes and melodies, which he and Girls in Airports have reinterpreted in radically new directions, influenced by genres like jazz, electronic, and indie.
