After their highly acclaimed records, Messe and Terroir, this marks the first collaborative project between Calum Builder and Nick Martin. Together with a string ensemble, they delve into the complex emotions of parenthood and the intense ambivalence of life in the 21st century, creating music that is visceral and haunting.
The project, Chiasm, features works by Builder and Martin that mirror each other in both timescale and perspective; Martin’s piece ‘Mothernaked’ reflects on the past, while Builder’s piece, ‘I don’t think you should think about these things’ looks towards the future.
Exploring ideas of immersion and cycles, composer-performer Calum Builder (AU) creates works that move from a clarifying stillness to a zealous, almost religious fervor. He is fascinated by sound being a transformative and embracing force, with his music “bringing about a symbiosis of overflowing beauty and rumbling disturbances” (T.S Høeg, Jazz Special)....

Matt Choboter | Air, Strings and Wood
Air is about organs. Strings is about re-imagining the piano. Wood is about letting trees speak.
An immersive dream-sharing ritual where the fragile and ephemeral sounds of organs and live prepared piano come together through a vibrant and ecstatic forest installation.
The installation is a celebration of the forest and its capacity for fostering mystery, beauty and spirituality. Combining my native Canadian forests with Scandinavian ones, they somehow connect symbolically to the European churches - and their sprawling organ pipeworks within - that reach up to the sky like the canopy of an old-growth forest.
Matt Choboter: extended piano, zithers, organ samples and multi-channel installation of recycled wood resonators made of Canadian red cedar and Scandinavian Sitka spruce.
Canadian composer and pianist Matt Choboter's music paints dream worlds between the cracks of post-jazz, experimental and contemporary creative music. He has contributed to labels such as Kairos (AU), Inner Circle Music (NY), ILK Music (DK) and Songlines Recordings (CA) and his music has been described as - “at times heavy and impenetrable, at other times soft and ethereal, but always moving and ever transforming”. (David Sumner, Bandcamp)
