The newest project of the Swedish violist and composer Pauline Hogstrand, brings together a colourful group of five international musicians based in Copenhagen. This new work, ”Eagle of Air", features a distinctive instrumentation of cello, double bass, saxophone, bass clarinet, percussion, and electronics. Combining composed material with improvisation, the piece draws from a variety of musical traditions, styles, and historical influences.
At the heart of Hogstrand's work are intricate, cyclic structures that explore the spectral qualities of sound, blending acoustic and electroacoustic textures. Her approach balances harmonic richness with dynamic rhythmic interplay, reflecting a curiosity for sound's ability to transcend temporal and spatial boundaries.
Her debut solo album “The Enterer” (2020) and the critically acclaimed “Áhkká” (2023) highlight her unique sound, often compared to Pauline Oliveros’ deep listening and the work of Charles Ives and Kali Malone. Hogstrand is also a dedicated member of ensembles such as Damkapellet, Crush String Collective, and Blue Lake
