In recent years, Maria Dybbroe has established herself as one of the most important younger voices on the Scandinavian scene for experimental music and improvisation, both as a composer and as a soloist. With her unique sound, and her tactile and melodic playing on the saxophone, she is known, among others, from the critically acclaimed bands Køs, Caktus and Maraton. Maria Dybbroe has also been a soloist with the Danish Radio Bigband, and has written music for both classical and rhythmic ensembles from string quartet to larger ensembles.
At the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, she will present for the first time her new quartet Maria Dybbroe’s Garden, which includes some of the most interesting musicians on the Norwegian jazz scene right now. Bassist Nicolas Leitrø is known, among others, from the trio ‘I Like To Sleep’ and their collaboration with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra as well as Veslemøy Narvesen’s We Don’t Imagine Anymore and Mats Gustafsson’s Hidros9....

Torstein Slåen is known from bands such as Damata and Torstein & Sigurd, while Jomar Søvik is a strong comp musician who, among other things, plays in the band Eir as well as free improv groups such as Dahl/Dalen/Søvik. In this new constellation, they play both completely newly composed material as well as music from Maria Dybbroe's entire catalog as a composer.
