Michael Mørkholt, Anders Lauge Meldgaard, Andreas Pallisgaard, and Mads Forsby form the core of the ambitious musicians’ collective and record label Aar & Dag, which since 2017 has set new standards for contemporary music in Denmark. As a group and collective, Aar & Dag has experimented with spontaneous composition, where large ensembles improvise within frameworks of tonal systems, logics, mechanisms, and various rule sets. This has resulted in numerous concerts over the years with different musicians and concepts, leading to releases like Tifold af fri form og fælles motiv, which came out in 2019.
The lead-up to this concert began at Bådehuset on July 1, 2023, where 30 instructional cards with time and tonal indications formed an open score, performed over three concerts by 33 musicians. Recordings of these three concerts have been merged into one 45-minute composition, now to be released on the cassette A MAJOR CELEBRATION.
