Caktus (Noisy Beehive)
Caktus is something as unusual as a Danish-Norwegian jazz quintet, which is almost a double trio with 2 saxophonists and 2 double basses in addition to a drummer. The group is led by the Danish alto saxophonist and composer Maria Dybbroe. The acoustic sound is in focus, and the musicians experiment and improvise in and out of the otherwise tight compositions.
Caktus has given over 50 concerts around the Nordic region, had music performed by DR Bigband, and collaborated with Oslo Jazzkomponisters Orkester on a concert with Caktus' compositions in expanded formats, which will be recorded and performed in connection with Aarhus Jazz Festival July 2024.
Their debut release 'Under Solen' from 2020 received many praises along the way, including nominations for 'Composer of the Year' by The Association of Danish Music Critics and 'Album of the Year' at the Danish Music Awards Jazz 2021.
