Kasper Tranberg / Søren Kjærgaard Duo
At Copenhagen Jazz Festival 2026, trumpeter Kasper Tranberg and pianist Søren Kjærgaard appear in duo at 5E.
Over the years, the two improvising musicians have collaborated in countless settings — from Frands Rifbjerg’s award-winning quartet to constellations with musicians such as Kresten Osgood and T. S. Høeg. In the duo format, their long-standing musical relationship unfolds through an open and attentive interplay, where improvisation, the lineage of jazz, and experimental extensions of instrumental techniques merge into a contemporary expression.
In their own way, the duo also places itself within a distinct piano–trumpet tradition — from Earl Hines and Louis Armstrong to Satoko Fujii and Natsuki Tamura.
The music moves fluidly in and out of compositions, improvisations, and other more or less charted sonic landscapes — leaving room for the fragile, the explosive, the lyrical, and the unpredictable.
