Vinterjazz 2019 announces full program of a truly nationwide celebration of jazz and beyond

The complete program for the 19th edition of the Danish nationwide festival Vinterjazz is ready. This year, more than 150 venues and independent organizers – from Skagen in the north to Flensborg in the south, and from Fanø in the west and Bornholm in the east – are presenting a total of 600 concerts. The key feature about Vinterjazz is not only its international headliners, but the international collaborations and specially curated concert series, all of which take place locally around the country.

Vinterjazz 2019 features a series of Danish-international groups such as Brazilian jazz star Egberto Gismonti with Lars Møller & The Orchestra, drum icon Steve Gadd as part of Blicher Hemmer Gadd, Jakob Bro with Thomas Morgan & Joey Baron, and Nate Wooley with avantgarde duo Heaven.

The new wave of British jazz is represented by Dinosaur, Joe Armon-Jones, Yussef Dayes, Go Go Penguin and Fofoulah, and in this 50th anniversary year of ECM you will find Craig Taborn, Mats Eilertsen Trio, Arild Andersen alongside Jakob Bro Trio and Egberto Gismonti. Other international acts are John Scofield, Khruangbin and Ghanaian highlife musician Gyedu-Blay Ambolley.

As always, Vinterjazz also represents a chance to catch special projects. The award-winning composer Jakob Buchanan works with Aarhus Jazz Orchestra and the Aningaaq Choir on “Songs to the Green Land”, Maria Faust presents her latest chamber-inspired piece “Machina” and Peter Bruun’s experimental group All Too Human travels with the praised album “Vernacular Avant-Garde“.

There are plenty of progressive concert series as well. Keep an eye out for musician-based collectives like The Community, Sun Ship, Klub Primi, ILK Music and Lutter Øre, as well as local jazz festivals that are making their mark in the winter season: Jazz i Trekanten (Kolding, Vejle, Fredericia area), Sorø Jazz in the western part of Zealand as well as Momentum Musik producing the new annual Jaiyede Festival in Odense.
