17:00 Gjerstad/Osgood/Westgaard
Playing for the very first time, this trio comprising of saxophonist Frode Gjerstad, guitarist Hein Westgaard and drummer Kresten Osgood will be a unique chance to hear three different generations of Scandinavian free improvisers. This concert is a part of Frode Gjerstad’s weeklong residency in Copenhagen, where he will play in total 5 concerts with the different members of Copenhagens creative and improvised music scene.
Frode Gjerstad has for many years declared his enthusiasm towards small line-ups, and especially trio. The trio line up gives space for the musicians, but is at the same time very depending on the musician's physics and musicality. Recently he has worked in the duo format with amongst others Peter Brötzmann and Matthew Shipp. With over 20 recordings as a leader he has established himself as a major saxophonist on the international scene. His trios have included Johnny Dyani, Kent Carter and John Stevens, William Parker and Rashied Bakr, and William Parker and Hamid Drake, whom he toured the US with in 2000.
Hein Westgaard is a guitarist, improviser and composer from Oslo, currently based in Copenhagen. He can be heard in the post-minimalistic quartet Ototoi, his own genre bending project Hein Westgaard Trio, in duo with Aureliijus Uzameckis, in ad-hoc free improvised constellations, or in the solo acoustic guitar format where he focuses on his own instrumental songs in the fingerpicking tradition.
Kresten Osgood is one of these people who at the same time defy and totally own categories. An extraordinary drummer and improviser with the fullest respect for tradition, without fear to challenge it at any given moment of his creative endeavours. He has about 100 albums to his credit, toured practically everywhere, and has been performing and/or recording with legends like Roscoe Mitchell, Paul Bley, Lee Scratch Perry, William Parker, Masabumi Kikuchi, Derek Bailey, Wadada Leo Smith, Jason Moran,Michael Blake, Oliver Lake, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Tchicai, Tim Berne,Justin Vernon, Peter Brötzman, Joshua Redman, Eugene Chadbourne, BillyPreston, Alan Silva, Brad Mehldau, Mats Gustafsson, Bennie Maupin, TheNational, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Sam Rivers, Henry Grimes, Dr. Yusef Lateef, Warren Smith, and many many others.

18:00 Ø
A space traversed by ideas in movement.
Complex timbres, micro detailed structures, blend of acoustic and artificial sounds, fragmented
elements, strong physical approach and gestures, multi layers interweaving…and a rich dose
of intensity thrown into the mix.
Improvisation is the key method that feeds the instant creation and the constructive processing.
Exploring multi-idiomatic musical environments, the result is a unique stream of sound, frozen like a
fluorescent sculpture.
Ø is an international project joining musicians from Denmark, Germany and Italy.
The trio works with advanced techniques and prepared instruments in a free sonic landscape that unfolds spontaneously
and fluidly, focusing on textural sounds and explosive dissonances. Each has cultivated original approaches to their
instruments and strives for a transcendent music that is at once abstract and precise.
Each performance is unique – in time and space.
19:00 Hanousek/Aardestrup/Jørgens
Peter Ole and Jonathan joined forces as a duo almost a year ago and cultivate encounters with international guests, playing with Portuguese saxophonist José Lencastre this summer and with Damir Kafka from Croatia during the fall break.
In February, they will be joined by Czech saxophonist Radim Hanousek. Radim and Jonathan played together in the Czech Republic on May 23.
The trio Hanousek, Aardestrup, Jørgensen does not play jazz as you know it, yet there are roots that are clearly heard when the acoustic instruments meet in curious exploration of sonic universes. The 3 experienced improvisers easily find new areas to explore and naturally exchange ideas, rhythms and soundscapes.
It's free improvised music of a high international standard.
