An encounter between North Indian raga music and West African kora music: Manish Pingel: indian guitar (Mohan Veena or slide-guitar) & Lamine Cissokho (Senegal/Sweden): kora.

The “normal” guitar has been adapted to classical North Indian music: the tuning has been modified, additional sympathetic strings have been added and the instrument is held horizontally and the left hand uses a slide technique like in a bottle-neck guitar (or the Hawaii guitar). The kora is an important classical instrument in Mali and Senegal. It has 21 strings each giving one tone and four fingers are used for playing the strings.


This concert – a “South-South” encounter is freely inspired by both Indian and African musical traditions. Manish Pingel & Lamine Cissokho have played together for a number of years and in 2019 they issued their first recording – appropriately entitled ”New Continent”.
