CHUVA BOA
is a new ensemble that brings together four prominent musicians from the Danish and Brazilian jazz scene. The name means “pleasant rain” and reflects the band’s musical universe: an organic blend of Brazilian choro, samba and chamamé fused with Scandinavian jazz traditions. The result is a warm, rhythmic and lyrical soundscape, where Nordic sounds meet South American nerve.
Brazilian drummer and percussionist Alexandre Damasceno recently moved to Denmark and has already made a strong mark on the Danish jazz scene. Throughout his career, he has played with some of Brazil’s most iconic artists, including Caetano Veloso, Arnaldo Antunes, Guinga, Gal Costa and Luiz Melodia – as well as Danish Thomas Clausen. Damasceno brings an authenticity and rhythmic authority to the music that is not otherwise found in Northern Europe. With over 30 years on the international stage, he has played with the elite within jazz, pop and related genres – including Hugo Rasmussen, Thomas Helmig, Thomas Blachman and Kira Skov and has also worked with great international talents such as Paul Motian, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Eddie Gomez.
The quartet is completed by Lasse Mørck (double bass) and Casper Christensen (guitar), two of Denmark's strongest jazz voices of the young generation and are known for their great musicality, responsiveness and personal expression.
