Pendulum – Opening Arcs - Delbecq / Westergaard / Bruun
A rare trio of three strong European composer-improvisers gathered around a large, long-form work: Opening Arcs. Parisian pianist Benoît Delbecq has spent three decades developing a singular sonic language built on prepared piano, polyrhythm and what he calls "rhythm fabrics" — an approach that has brought the soul of jazz to John Cage's instrumentarium and earned him a permanent spot in the Down Beat Critics' Poll Piano category since 2021. Bassist Jonas Westergaard is a Berlin-based Dane with a long international career, and drummer Peter Bruun — known from Django Bates' Belovèd Trio on ECM and as composer for the quartet All Too Human — received the Carl Nielsen Award as Composer of the Year in 2019.
