Vinterjazz 2016 – Thanks for another great festival!
The 16th edition of the nationwide musical festival Vinterjazz ended Sunday night after 24 days and over 650 concerts at 100 venues. This amount of concerts is a new record, caused in part by the festival’s extra week compared to 2015.
Vinterjazz has seen international main acts such as Concha Buika, Tomasz Stanko and Dr. Lonnie Smith, all the greatest Danish names in jazz and a massive influx of nearly 20 new venues from Jazz9700 in Brønderslev, Skolegade 4 in Hjørring and Det Musiske Hus in the North to Pitstop in Kolding, Musikhuset in Slagelse and Den Blå Planet on Amager, to mention but a few.
National projects worth mentioning include the Danish premiere of SØLVTØJET with members Kresten Osgood, Jesper Thilo, Lotte Anker and others, visiting Kolding, Aarhus, Vordingborg, Copenhagen and Albertslund. DR Big Bandet also embarked on a tour of Jutland from Sønderborg to Brønderslev, while the concert caravan Wild at Heart with groups Shitney (Maria Faust, Qarin Wikström, Katrine Amsler) and Eget Værelse toured the cities included in the yearly JazzCamp for Girls.
The secretary behind Vinterjazz would like to thank all of this year’s venues, musicians, the audience and our many collaborators. A special thanks goes out to the festival’s main sponsor, Nordea-fonden, as well as Statens Kunstfond and Arthur Hotels.
